Truffaut's Mississippi Mermaid (1969) was based on the novel "Waltz Into Darkness" by William Irish (a pseudonym for Cornell Woolrich, who also wrote "Rear Window"). The novel was also used as the source material for the erotic thriller Original Sin (2001).
